Norse Gods - LOKI by Anonymous Mint 1oz .999 Silver Round BU Finish

Anonymous Mint

The fifth and final coin in the Norse Gods series, LOKI.

LOKI, God of Mischief, is portrayed on the obverse of the coin.  In Norse mythology, Loki was of the Jotun/Giant race - some say blood brother to Odin.  In appearance he was handsome, graceful and fair, yet his demeanor was cunning, deceitful and fickle-minded.  Loki was also a shapeshifter and mother to Odin's eight-legged steed Sleipnir.  He frequently caused chaos amongst the gods and then would make up for it by bringing them marvelous gifts such as Odin's spear and Thor's hammer.  Loki was responsible for the greatest misfortune to fall upon the gods, the death of Balder, God of Light.  This soured his relationship with the gods.  To hide from the gods, Loki shapeshifted into a salmon and took to the water.  After his capture, he was subjected to punishment, bound in a cave with venom dripping on him.  When the venom hits his face, he twists so violently that the whole earth shakes - or what we call earthquakes. The reverse design is VALKYRIE, Chooser of the Slain.
